Preventing Diaper Rash:The very best treatment for diaper rash is
prevention. If you use cloth diapers it is essential to use a very mild soap
for laundering. If you use bleach then you must do a double rinse to make
sure you have removed as much of the harsh chemical as possible. Another
trick is to add baking soda to the first rinse. Soda will neutralize the
acidity of any ammonia in urine that may not all be completely washed out.
Use only fragrance-free or unscented products. |

Allow your baby's skin a little time each day to
breath and be dry. Babies absolutely love the feeling of being naked and
having a period of time with their bottoms exposed to the air will help
prevent diaper rash. What I used to do was lay my babies on their tummy on a
blanket after bath time every morning for at least a half hour and again in
the evening. Give them some toys to play with or make this a time to play
with your baby on the floor. You may want to put a change pad under the
blanket just in case they have an "accident" while naked. Be sure to completely dry your baby's bottom before diapering. If your baby is prone to diaper rashes you may want to try using a hair dryer set on cool to dry them completely every time you change their diaper. Be careful to always check that the setting on the hair dryer is not too hot. Do not leave soiled diapers soaking for long.
Putting water in your diaper pail will cause mold to grow on the diapers.
Wash the diapers daily or every other day. Add a little bleach or vinegar to
the soak water to help prevent the growth of mold. |
