Fall to-do list
:

  1. Harvest late-season produce. Not
sure what to do with the abundance of fresh herbs and tomatoes from your
garden? Fresh pesto or homemade salsa are great ways to use up surplus.
  2. Give the fridge and pantry an overhaul.
Now's the perfect time to clean out the fridge and pantry, giving expired
items the heave-ho and using up odds and ends. When you're done, restock
with the basics you use most often. Now you will have room to store all of
those newly canned jars of pickles and preserves.
  3. Organize your recipes. Take time to
compile a list of quick recipes you can fall back on when you have to get
meals onto the table, pronto! Trust me- you'll be glad you did.

Double Duty Gadgets

A
covered ice cube tray is the perfect solution to salvaging kitchen leftovers.
Simply freeze remnants of wine, tomato paste, pesto and chopped herbs in the
tray, then pop out the cubes and store in re-sealable freezer bags in the
freezer. Add the cubes to soups, stews, stir fries and dressings as needed. If
you can't find covered trays at your local market try the baby section. These
are the same trays used for storing baby foods.
